Do you need a website if you are already on Instagram and Google Maps?

Maybe you think customers already find you. You are on Google Maps, you have Instagram, and the neighbourhood knows you. That is a fair thought. By all means keep Instagram and Google Maps. But there are a few things they don’t do.

Who owns your Instagram page?

Not you. Your page is on another company’s platform. That company decides who sees your posts and what your page looks like. If you lose your account, or the rules change? Then you have little say.

A website on your own domain name really is yours. That is the name of your business followed by .nl. It stays, whatever happens with social media.

Is everyone on Instagram?

No. Many customers don’t have Instagram. Or they don’t want to log in to see your opening hours. Anyone can open a website, on any phone, without an account.

What doesn’t Google Maps show?

A Google Business Profile shows your address, your opening hours and a few photos. That is nice, but it doesn’t hold much. On a website you show what you sell, what it costs and how you work.

Google also looks at your website itself. A profile with a good website behind it is often better understood.

Do AI assistants read websites too?

Yes. People can also ask an AI assistant: “Which hairdresser in Amsterdam has a slot today?” Such an assistant looks for clear information, on websites too. No website? Then the assistant has less to say about you. Read What does an AI assistant say about your business?

Do you have to choose?

No. Use Instagram for your everyday photos. Keep your Google Business Profile up to date. And let your website be the fixed address where everything comes together.
